As part of the pavement maintenance program, The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (The busiest airport in the world) engages a contractor to perform the concrete repair and associated work. Precision 2000, Inc. has been doing these annual repairs since 2002. The work includes spall repair, joint and crack sealing, selective grading, striping improvements and rubber removal. Most construction occur within the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) know as the airport security area with restricted access and the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) know as the area controlled by the FAA. The main challenge on this project is the timing in which each repair has to be executed. Nightly closures on Runways and Taxiways take place from 11:30 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Within this time frame, damaged areas of the concrete pavement have to be demolished, prepared, re-bar placed, special high-early strength concrete poured back and the area cleaned and free of debris to allow the landing of the first airplanes at 6:00 a.m.
Contract Milestones includes Liquidated Damages $100 dollars per minute failure to open Taxiway on time and $500 dollars per minute failure to open Runway on time.
